Shamir's 2019 Launches

2019: It’s a new year and in some ways, a new Shamir. But in many ways, it’s revisiting what made Shamir so great in the first place. One of the finest, most trusted research & development teams in lens products, innovation in technology and machinery, a skilled and expert workforce and above all, a genuine passion to recreate perfect vision. Our 2019 launches are full of these values, held since we were established in 1972 and we’re excited that this means bringing you brand new products that are not yet available on the market from any other lens supplier.

So, what can you expect?

Autograph Intelligence

A launch that we’re really thrilled about; not only is this the first of its kind on the UK market, it genuinely has an incredible ability to help all progressive wearers have instant focus for every distance, quick adaptation and smooth transitioning. Whatsmore, it is an easy entry into progressives for those new to these lenses.

To create this lens, over 5 million Rx orders were analysed, followed by further consumer research. It also utilised artificial intelligence and big data methods. The research showed us that your visual behaviour changes in relation to your Visual Age™ and based on these findings, we set out to address these changing needs by designing a lens that optimally suits the needs of your unique Visual Age™. This considers the different vision zones, and the smooth switch frequency between them – made easy by the soft lens design.

Glacier+ UV IR™

Of course, sunlight is essential to life for the likes of vitamin D, but not all of the sun’s rays are beneficial; there are invisible light rays that can cause some of the most damage. We are well aware of the dangers of UV light on the eyes and that isn’t going away. But what we are now increasingly aware of, is the damage that the Infra-Red light (IR) can have on our eyes, and this coating aims to protect eyes from this.

When the radiation from infra-red light is absorbed by human tissue, it causes significant changes to the cellular structures, and the biggest concern this has on ocular structures (the eye), is the heating effect on the lens and retina. It is always better to prevent issues to eye health and vision and our coating significantly reduces the amount of IR light reaching the eyes, providing upto 3 times more protection than any other lens on the market.

Sun creams have already started to incorporate IR defences, if you are careful to protect your skin, why not your eyes? They are both tissues which need damage prevention and it is widely recognised as a danger.
